An NJC Story; Meg & Thatcher '22

Meg: I always knew I wanted to go to NJC after hearing about my sister's experience. I did not want to go to university yet, and wanted to travel and learn at the same time. 

Thatcher: My uncle went to NJC and loved it! He told me amazing stories of the people he had met and his experiences. My dad was the one who encouraged me to go to NJC - he was the one that signed up for the information meetings. I am super happy I ended up going and submitting my application! It was definitely the best year of my life.  

Thatcher: We met in Ms. Persaud's International Business class when Megan told me to stop asking so many questions. I was taken aback as I have never had a girl be so blunt. Despite this, I thought Meg was really pretty and admired the confidence she had to call me out without really knowing me.

Meg: I was just being honest with him.

Thatcher: After this experience, I tried very hard to get to know Meg better. I was curious about her and wanted to know more about her. On a walk back from lunch one day in the pouring rain, I lost track of my friends so I attempted to talk to Meg and her friends. I asked Meg if I could go under her umbrella to get out of the rain. I thought this was a great way to get to chat with her.  She hesitantly agreed, but declined my offer to hold the umbrella.

Meg: I thought he was just being selfish when he offered to hold the umbrella.  I thought he was trying to stay more dry than me. However, later my friends told me that I had been smacking him in the head with the umbrella as I was too short to be holding it for the both of us.  From there, we continued to spend time together and get to know one another better. 

Our favourite memory of NJC was the time spent in Rome during the school trip to Italy and Greece. We spent that day with our friends Harper and Ally, cruising the beautiful, sunny streets of Rome. We went for an amazing lunch in this quaint Italian square and had delicious pizzas and pasta. Following lunch, the four of us got gelato and walked the streets going in all the cute shops.  

Meg: After graduation, I invited Thatcher to Vancouver to come on a family fishing trip. I saw how much my family loved Thatcher, so that made it easy to invite him with us. This trip went well and Thatcher ended up staying in Vancouver for the whole summer before he went to Queens University and I went to the University of San Diego. After his departure, it was difficult for the both of us to be so far apart. We would talk regularly and ensure we would see each other as much as possible. This led to us visiting one another frequently in a variety of different places. 

Right now we are both enjoying our university experiences. We try and make trips out of seeing each other. Meg even makes sure we see Mr. Phillips whenever we are in Ontario. We are hoping to study together in Europe this fall. This timing aligns perfectly with Thatcher's brother going to Neuchâtel. After university, we both hope to move back to Europe as we miss our time there.
